If you’re planning your retirement goals, the lifestyle at Regency of South Barrington should be at the top of your list. This active adult community of single family, single story homes boasts many amenities, active committees and a beautiful wetlands setting. But it’s the community focus that makes this property truly special.
“It’s definitely the people that make this place special,” said Assistant Property Manager Marissa Hicks. “They truly care for one another and look out for each other.” She noted that when someone moves into the neighborhood, members of the Welcome Committee will visit them soon afterward and invite them to some of the myriad events hosted in the community. “They understand that people might be shy to go to a party or a movie with people they don’t know, so they offer to introduce them to the crowd.”
This care for each other extends in many directions. As many of the residents are elderly, single people are checked daily. Two single ladies who live across from each other signal each other with their blinds each morning when they wake. Residents carpool together, visit the bereaved, plan luncheons and play lively games of cards. While old age is sometimes a lonely time in a person’s life, Regency homeowners never have to be alone unless they choose.
“We were looking for this kind of community when we retired, and we liked what we saw at Regency,” said Larry Garifo, Board President. “It’s a very inclusive neighborhood with great communication, and the board works hard to empower people to get involved.” Many residents are highly engaged in the community and serve on various committees, such as:
- Social Committee: book club, card club, parties, Madrigal singers, charity events and activities for grandchildren
- Health & Wellness: wellness speakers, exercise clubs, golf league and blood drive
- Administrative groups: rules & regulations, finance, property tax, architecture and landscape committees
- Regency Angels Bereavement group
- Welcome Committee
Regency is a single family active adult community of 156 homes with 4 remaining to be built. At least one resident in each home at Regency are 50-55 or older; all residents must be 18 or older. A third of residents are snowbirds who frequently meet up in the South during the winter. Most residents are accomplished business people who are retired, semi-retired or working.
There’s no danger of getting bored; amenities include pool, fitness room, Bocce ball court, tennis courts, shuffleboard court, walking paths, community rooms, library, kitchen, common area patio, and lobby lounge. The grounds of the community contain 20 ponds that are water-tested for EPA standards monthly. Areas along walking paths have areas of landscaping intermixed with natural wetlands. LMS has been managing the property since it was built.
”There’s a true sense of belonging here,” said Garifo. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
