LMS Sharpens the Saw

Stephen Covey once put it best: he described an ineffective lumberjack who was too busy to sharpen his dull saw. The principle he noted is if we sharpen our saw – hone our skills and knowledge – we can accomplish much more. One of the most important values at Lieberman Management Services, Inc. (LMS) is cutting-edge knowledge through ongoing training. So it’s no surprise that on February 26 and 27 2016, LMS’s property managers joined over a thousand other professionals at continuing education seminars at the 2016 CAI-IL Condo – HOA Conference & Expo in Rosemont, Illinois.

Over the weekend, attendees had the opportunity to choose from educational sessions on legal updates, innovative trends, hot topics, and industry best practices. The Expo also gave them many chances to learn from other experts, develop relationships with vendors, network, and discuss challenges and solutions.

One of the most popular training sessions was called Enlighten! A panel of experts offered an array of short presentations on landscaping, zoning, insurance, contracts, banking, emergency restoration, and others. “This panel gave our property managers a wealth of information about the topics they handle every day,” said Michele Trina, Director of Suburban Operations for LMS. “Our managers are required to take ongoing training to maintain their CAI designations, and this session came at an ideal time for continuing education.”

In January, Trina led the suburban property managers in a Legislative training class. They learned about the latest changes in property laws that affect community associations, as well as upcoming legislation that may affect associations in the future.

The Community Association Institute also offered a seminar on Legal, Legislative & Case Law Update at the CAI-IL Expo. Led by Pat Costello, of Keay & Costello and Jeff Dixon, of Dixon and Company, Inc, reviewed case law which significantly impacts the life and governance of Illinois community associations. “Many of the LMS property managers attended this session to discuss property law changes with other professionals,” said Trina. “It was a helpful reinforcement of the topics we learned about in our January training.”
