Last year was a busy one for Community Association lawmakers – and 2017 is shaping up to be another year of activity. Issues like the new Palm II ruling on open meetings, the Ombudsperson Act, unit owner litigation rules, and changes to the required property manager licensing are on the top of managers’ minds. On February 25, 2017, Lieberman Management Services sponsored the Legal, Legislative and Case Law Update at the CAI-IL Conference and Expo in Rosemont, IL.
The discussion, led by industry professionals and state lawmakers, gave managers an opportunity to learn about legislative efforts supported by CAI-Illinois’ Legislative Action Committee (ILAC). The forum also reviewed the case law which significantly impacts the life and governance of the Illinois community association. The presenters gave tips on how to guide an association with both necessary governance changes due to the reported decisions, as well as helpful practice tips and reminders consistent with the current state of Illinois community association law.
